Mindset Mastery 9/26/11- Overcome Your Nervousness & Fear

To overcome your anxiety, nervousness, and fear, you must approach it. There is no other alternative.

Most people avoid what makes them nervous. Avoidance keeps you trapped in the jail of your mind. What happens is, people irrationally link a disproportionate amount of potential pain to something- say public speaking, or heights. People around us tell us to just stay away from it. Seems like the logical thing to do. If something makes you uneasy, avoid it. The problem is you never have an opportunity for life to prove to you that things are not as bad as they seem. Perhaps if you faced your fear something good would happen. Maybe you would handle the situation well. But if you stay away from things that make you scared, life cannot prove you wrong. You assume the worst, you avoid, you stay trapped in your own head. This is a vicious cycle that needs to be broken immediately.

Facing your fears is the key to unlocking and releasing you from this mental jail. You need to have positive experiences with that which makes you nervous or you will continue to be anxious about it.

You can approach things (1) slowly, step by step, little by little (2) all at once (3) through imagery and visualization. However you do it, you must approach things that make you anxious.

The words "Fear not" are found together in the Bible 75 times. Fear keeps you from living the life of your dreams. Figure out what makes you nervous and get to work on finding a way to approach it today. Live fanatically!

Mindset Monday 9/19/11- Success from Statistics (A Must Read for Success)

In Economics, there is an 80/20 rule. 80% of the money in the world is controlled by only 20% of the people. Experts believe this should be modified to the 90-10 rule! This 90-10 rule can be applied to success. Think about it 10% of the people have 90% of the success. This makes sense. Think of the bell curve.

The bell curve theory states that normal populations of people tend to be represented in the shape opf a bell curve. In other words, imagine an upside down U on a graph. Imagine the tails on each side of the U that flair out to make the upside down U look like a bell. If a population looks like this, then most people fall where? In the middle. The middle is the thickest part of the bell. The tails on both sides are very thin.

Think how this relates to the 80/20 or 90/10 rule. Most people fall in the middle class on the socio-economic spectrum. Very few people are extremely rich or extremely poor. Apply this lesson to success in any field. Most people in any field are in the middle, or moderate. Some people are very unsuccessful and some people are highly successful.

What does this mean to you?

Who do you normally learn from? Who do you take advice from? In all probability, you take advice and learn from normal, average, moderately successful people. Take a minute to let that sink in……..I am sure you wonder why you have not yet had the success you dream you could. Consider this as a possible contributing factor.

If you want to achieve great success, then you need to learn from the best.
This is not to say that you cannot learn from the people around you- you can and should learn from everyone. But make sure that you are studying highly successful people on a regular basis. How do they think? What actions do they take? You will probably find that they think and do things quite a bit different from the people you normally surround yourself with. Who should you try to emulate if you want to succeed?

Remember, average people far outnumber exceptional people. That is the nature of the bell curve and 90/10 rule. Make it a habit to study highly successful people. Seek them out. Speak to them. Read their biography. Start to do as they do. Think as they think. Learn from the best in the world. Stay in your own mind. Don’t be afraid to stand up to peer pressure and go against the crowd. Live your dreams. Get Fanatical!

Mindset Monday 9/12/11- Emotion Creates Motion, and Motion creates Emotion

It is the START that STOPS most people. You have heard it said, “half the battle is showing up.” Now, you may know this all too well. But, how well do you apply this in your life? What have you gotten started on recently? Do you take regular action toward your goals? Do you take ANY action toward your goals? Do you even have a goal?

If you answered no to any of these questions, then you are in the majority. And, that is okay. What is not okay is to know this, and now CONTINUE to not do anything. We need to get you started. Or maybe we need to get you to continue to get started each day. Either way, before you get something done, you must get it started.

In many cases, perfection is the enemy of good. Many people procrastinate because things are not perfect in the present moment. When will the perfect moment come for you? Maybe in 5 years? !0 years? Now you are 5-10 years older and your old problems are gone (maybe they are not) and you now have new problems and obstacles you can use as an excuse.

Imagine waiting to cross the street in a big city until all the lights on the road are green. You may be waiting for awhile. Action beats inaction. Get started today. Do not worry if conditions are ideal. With intensity and consistency, you can MAKE conditions more ideal.

Still having a problem getting started? Use the 15 minute rule. Take action for only 15 minutes. And go “too easy.” Work at an easier pace then you normally would, so you do not feel any burn out. Almost everyone who follows the 15 minute rule will eventually work harder and longer than the original 15 minute easy beginning commitment.

Emotion is E-Energy in motion. Become Emotionally involved, and you will create motion. Also, put your body in motion, and the e-motion will follow. It works both ways. One of the best ways to change your feelings is to change the way you are moving. Begin by acting as if. Move the way you want to feel, even if this feels fake at first. Fake it till you make it, and fake it till you feel it.
Emotion creates motion, and motion creates emotion. This relationship is called a reciprocal interaction. There you learned something new today! Now apply it, or it’s just jeopardy knowledge.
